What’s new for kids at the 8th Annual Carolina Bible Camp Bluegrass Festival? Plenty, volunteer organizers said.
“The Camp exists for kids, to make their lives better spiritually, socially, and physically,” said board member and festival chair Gregory J. Brewer. “The fundraising festival reflects that more than ever this year with the addition of even more free activities for our youngest guests.”
The festival will take place at Carolina Bible Camp on Saturday, September 14, 2019. Gates open at 10:00 a.m.
In addition to a family friendly lineup of award-winning bluegrass artists, a classic car show, and endless crafts and games at the Kids’ Activities tent sponsored by AGAPE of North Carolina, this year’s festival includes special music sessions, a nature walk, Ga Ga ball lessons, and a quiet Nappin’ Cabin, also sponsored by AGAPE.
Musician and teacher Laura Donovan will offer two 30-minute sessions for kids focusing on participation with rhythm instruments. With her autoharp and ukulele, she will lead young guests in well-loved Americana tunes.
Lee Watkins, a lifelong Carolina Bible Camper who met her fiancé at the festival two years ago, will lead children on a brief nature walk around the camp.
Board member and Week 1 Camp Director Andy King will teach children how to play the popular game Ga Ga ball.
The AGAPE Nappin’ Cabin will be open from 1:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. to parents and guardians of children from birth to 4 years old. Nursing mothers are welcome, as well.
“The festival is wonderful, but it can be a long day for the little ones and their parents,” said AGAPE Executive Director Kimberly Scott. “We wanted to provide a quiet air-conditioned place for them to rest and recharge.”
The opening ceremony begins at 10:45 a.m. and will feature two AGAPE of NC adoptive families leading the Pledge of Allegiance.
Artists performing at the popular festival include His & Hers of Mocksville; the Banjo Earth Band of Greensboro; the Kevin Prater Band of Kentucky; Terry Baucom’s Dukes of Drive, and GRAMMY award-winning, Emmy nominated Smithsonian artist Dom Flemons, The American Songster.
